CAMBRIDGE- Elwood and Overton took to the mats this weekend as they would meet each other in Cambridge for the Fran Jorgensen Invitational Saturday.
The Pirates and Eagles would fair well at the invite, as the Pirates would take home fifth place and the Eagles would come home with seventh.
For the Pirates, almost every varsity wrestler would place as seven Pirate grapplers would come home with medals.
At 119, Walter Flint would come home with second after losing to Britton Ferguson of Elm Creek in the championship match.
Michael Daake would see the same two wrestlers that have defeated him this season place first and second, as Daake would finish third on the day at 125.
Senior Will Rahjes would finish second as well as he would fall to Justin Vojta of Loomis/Bertrand in their championship match at 135 lbs.
Thad Reiman would get his first medal of the season, as he would take fourth at 145 lbs.
Mitch Kubert would take home third at 152 pounds for Elwood, as he would defeat Logan Huxoll of Cambridge to take home the bronze.
Hunter Ertz would also take home third place as he would defeat Levi Smith of Superior in the third-place match.
Finally for Elwood, Dillon Tiede would take home a third-place finish as he would down Joe Gregory of Ansley/Arcadia.
Elwood would finish with 148 team points, which was good enough for fifth place, just 26 points out of fourth.
For Overton, the small numbers seem to play a huge role as three of its wrestlers would come home with medals, but still would finish strong for the day, despite the small numbers.
At 103 pounds, Ethan Enochs would take home the gold, as he would defeat Mitchell Palmer of Loomis/Bertrand in the championship match. Enoch is establishing himself as one of the dominant wrestlers for Overton this season.
Senior Paul Martin would have a strong showing this weekend, taking home fourth place. Martin would lose to Anthony Rodriguez of Cambridge in the third-place match.
Michael Zern would also have a strong showing, finishing second overall. Zern would lose to Isaac Johnson in the championship match.
Overton would take seventh overall with 97 total points, only nine points out of sixth place.
Elwood and Overton will not wrestle again until 2010, when the Pirates will travel to Franklin for the Franklin Invite on Jan. 9 and Overton travels Bertrand for their invite which is also on Jan. 9.
