GOTHENBURG- Since the spirit of rivalries is in the air, what better way to enjoy then with a little basketball.
Cozad traveled to Gothenburg Thursday night in a battle on the hardwood.
The girls took to the court first, trying to end their five-game losing streak.
The girls ended their streak as the Makers upended the Swedes 41-35.
The win brings Cozad to 4-9 on the season, while Gothenburg drops to 3-8.
The boys looked to end a losing streak of their own, as they entered the game with the rival Swedes on a seven-game losing streak.
The boys led early, however the Swedes used a couple of big runs to pull away and Cozad lost their eighth straight game, losing 55-40.
Cozad began the game on fire, taking an early 10-2 lead in the first quarter. Gothenburg used that to go on a 20-2 run and take a 22-12 lead going into halftime.
The teams went back and forth for much of the second half, with Gothenburg pulling away by as much as 18, with Cozad pulling back in within 10 toward the end of regulation, but Gothenburg hit the shots why they needed to take the victory.
Jordan Hickenbottom and Jon Kuklis led the Haymakers with 12 points each. Hickenbottom also recorded 12 rebounds.
Three different Swedes players scored in double figures as Gothenburg improved their record to 5-6 on the season.
The Haymakers remain at home this weekend as the boys and girls take on Ainsworth Saturday.
The Haymakers will then travel to take on another rival, as Lexington will await them on Jan. 21.
