PLEASANTON – While the Lexington varsity was in Albion, the junior varsity, along with the Overton varsity, were in Pleasanton as the Bulldogs hosted their invite over the wrestling-packed weekend.
The Lexington JV came away with eleven medalists, while Overton snagged six medals, as both teams fared well at the invite.
At 103 pounds, Overton’s Ethan Enochs came away as champion, defeating Robert Strickland of Maxwell. Lexington’s Miguel Jaimes came away with fourth, losing in the third-place match to Austin Thelander of Perkins County.
Emanuel Guerrero took home a gold medal for the Minutemen, winning his bracket at 112 pounds.
Another Lexington wrestler took home hardware as Brian Ramirez took home a silver medal over the weekend. Ramirez lost his championship match to Jonathan Wright of Maxwell.
Paul Martin of Overton brought home a bronze medal, while Victor Martinez of Lexington took home fourth at 130 pounds. Martin defeated Martinez in the third-place match.
At 135 pounds, Frankie Garcia took home Lexington’s second silver medal of the day. Garcia was defeated by Elliott Trisdale of Maxwell.
Lexington’s Nick Hall was the second Minuteman to take home gold Saturday, as he won the 140 pound bracket. Hall defeated Steven Tolle of Maxwell in the final.
Michael Zern took home another medal for the Eagles, as Zern took home second after losing to Cord Boland in the championship match at 145 pounds. D.J. Freeland took home third place for Lexington, as he defeated Mark Hanson of Perkins County to take home the bronze.
Mikey Becerra became another Minuteman medalist, as Becerra took out Lane Miller of Maxwell in their consolation match. In the championship match, Ivan Faudon of Lexington lost to Gustavo Rodriguez or Ravenna to take home second place at 152 pounds.
Preston Meier was a third-place finisher for the Eagles, defeating Jorge Alvidrez of Lexington in the third-place match at 171 pounds.
Lexington got that loss back with a win by Jose Muniz over Luis Arredondo of Overton at 189 pounds.
Finally, Brandon Jerred of Overton took home a silver medal at 215 pounds, after losing to Vinny Ross of Perkins County in the championship match.
Lexington finished third overall, with 90 total team points, while Overton finished right behind them in fourth with 76 points. Maxwell was the team champion with 142 total points.
Overton will be in Sumner next for the Fort Kearny Conference tournament on Feb. 4, then travel to Amherst for the District tournament on Feb. 12 and 13.
