HASTINGS – Storm clouds were rolling in around the Tri-City area Monday evening, however it wasn’t to signal a forecast for rain.
The Minutemaid softball team ran into a whirlwind of trouble as they were held scoreless by Class B powers Norris and Beatrice at the Hastings Softball Complex in a doubleheader Monday night.
In their opening match-up, the Maids took on No. 3 ranked Beatrice, where Alicia Armstrong belted two home runs to lift Beatrice to a quick 12-0 victory that lasted only three innings.
The Maids looked to rebound against Norris in the second game of the doubleheader, but they were looking at another tall order, as Norris came into the contest ranked No. 2 by the Omaha World-Herald.
The Lady Titans proved their ranking by holding Lexington scoreless for the third straight game, winning 9-0. Lexington also had to dig themselves out of a quick hole, as seven errors proved costly in the loss.
Michaela Woodward was given the victory for Norris, pitching a complete game shutout.
For head coach Cory Spotanski, his girls need to start being productive at the plate.
“We hit well during practice, but when we get to game time, they get really tentative,” Spotanski said.
Lexington (0-3) will take a few days rest before hosting their next six games at home, starting with Grand Island Northwest in a doubleheader for the home opener. The games are scheduled for 5 p.m. and 6:30. p.m.
