KEARNEY – When many athletic programs were hitting the softball diamond, the Cozad Lady Haymakers girls’ golf team was on the road Thursday afternoon, taking part in the Kearney Catholic Invitational, held at Meadowlark Hills Golf Course.
Consistent scores across the board for the Haymakers were key, as Cozad took seventh place out of the 11-team field.
Trinitee Weinmaster led the charge for Cozad, finishing with an 18-hole score of 111.
Three different Cozad golfers finished within six strokes of one another, as Ronelle Jackson finished with a 115, while Jacqui Koch shot a 117.
Hannah Gilg finished her tournament with a 120, senior Ida Rose Sprague shot a 125, while Samantha Schneider rounded out the starting six, shooting a 159.
While many of the golfers failed to shoot under the 100 mark on the day, a handful finished the day with remarkable scores.
Doniphan-Trumbull’s Danielle Lemek was the overall winner of the Kearney Catholic Invite, shooting a 72.
Gothenburg also took part in the invitational, as the Lady Swedes finished in eighth place right behind Cozad.
The Cozad girls’ golf team will travel back to Kearney on Tuesday, Aug. 31, as they will dual with the Stars of Kearney Catholic.
