Nebraskaland Days has become one of the largest celebrations, commemorating Nebraska and its western heritage. First conceived in 1965, the event found a permanent home in North Platte starting in 1968. Held in June of each year, the event has become a major tourist attraction with more than 80 events that include live concerts, a western musical theater production, parades, competitive sporting events and much more.
The event also features the annual Buffalo Bill Rodeo, which is the nation’s longest running rodeo event. The rodeo celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2007 and continues to draw big crowds and competitors from far and wide.
In addition to family events like the Kids Fun Festival, Kids Parade and Family Fun Night, Nebraskaland Days offers a variety of activities such as the Woodcarvers Show, Frontier Musical Revue, Antique Tractor Rodeo and Comedy Night.
One of the highlights of the event is the Summer Jam Concert Series that features some of the best country and rock artists past and present. Past performers have included Sugarland, Big & Rich, Keith Urban, Rascal Flats, Journey and Heart.
Nebraskaland Days also offers plenty of food throughout the 10-day celebration with a chili cook-off, prime sandwich rib feed, pork breakfast, BBQ pork sandwich feed, flapjack feed, and the popular cinnamon rolls at the Sweet Saloon.
One of the largest parades in the state of Nebraska happens at Nebraskaland Days. The event also features the popular Kids Parade as well as the Antique Car Parade, which follows the annual car show at Memorial Park.
Each year, young women between the ages of 19-25 come from throughout the state come to Nebraskaland Days to compete for the title of Miss Rodeo Nebraska. The winner goes on to compete in the Miss Rodeo America Pageant.
It is estimated that more than 100,000 people come to North Platte to take part in the many festivities offered at Nebraskaland Days, making this the largest event in Western Nebraska.
